Dragon and Star

Dragon and Star

Robert Lane

Two amazing brands, Dragon and Zvezda, have now been added to the Anglia Models webstore, so if you're a fan of 1/35 scale military model kits - as well as 1/72 - you are in for a treat.

Dragon, especially, have a huge range of German World War II 1/35 armoured vehicles (as well as 1/72 scale), and Zvezda are all about Soviet/Russian 1/35 scale armour, 1/72 figures, 1/48 and 1/72 aircraft and their wargame, Art of Tactic, in 1/100 scale. In short, both increase your choice of model kits immensely!

Dragon

Formed in Hong Kong in 1987, Dragon have been making highly detailed plastic model kits for a long time now. In the past they have produced a wide range of models from aircraft to ships to armour, but these days they are mainly focussed on 1/35 and 1/72 military vehicles of World War II - and especially for the Germans. Their kits are also of a very high quality, as anyone who has built one can attest to!

Dragon also produce post-war armour in 1/35 and 1/72 scale, so don't miss out on those, and lots of military figures in 1/35 scale too, as well as artillery; again, mostly World War II, and mostly German, but there's plenty of British and US infantry to go around.

Their aircraft ranges may be small in number but very esoteric, concentrating on unusual kits for the Germans of World War II, including lots of jet prototypes in 1/48 and 1/72 scale. They have a nice little range of ships, too, mostly for the US Navy, but with a fantastic kit of HMS Invincible and HMS Sheffield from the Falklands War.

Zvezda

Zvezda, being from Russia, concentrate mostly on Soviet and Russian aircraft and armour model kits, as you may expect. They produce a huge amount of 1/72 military figures and artillery to choose from for World War II, for all the major nations of that conflict, and a superb historical range from the Romans to the Napoleonic Wars.

Their military vehicle kits focus on both the World War II and post war periods, in 1/35, 1/72 and 1/100 scales - the latter being quick to assemble snap-fit kits for their wargame, Art of Tactic. Regardless, you'll find some very interesting modern Russian vehicles in their ranges, some of which nobody else seems to produce!

Similarly, with everyone concentrating on German, American and British aircraft of World War II, the gap that is Soviet aircraft is definitely filled by Zvezda. They produce a lot of 1/48 scale and 1/72 scale Soviet aircraft from that period which are great counterpoints to the usual Spitfires and Me 109s, and there's also lots of post war and modern Soviet and Russian aircraft in their ranges, too. They also produce some excellent airliners and snap-fit kits in other scales!

Their watercraft range is pretty good, too - there's lots of sailing ships from antiquity to modern times as well as warships of the 20th Century, and a particular favourite of mine - an ultra-modern icebreaker, Arktika. Might just have to grab one of those for myself...

Pages and Pages and Pages

Speaking of what I'm up to, I've been working on getting pages for all the various services of the major nations around the world onto the site (in the ‘Service’ dropdown menu) and you'll find the UK, the USA, Germany and the Soviet Union on there right now. Simply put, these pages collect all the model kits with markings for that particular service, so that if you're a fan of Royal Air Force model kits you'll be able to find them all on one page.

The next services added will be for Russia, China, France and Italy, with lots more to come over the coming months. I'm determined to get all the services done for all the nations on here at some point.

Machine Pages

As well as that, I'm working on pages for individual machines; you'll find the most important armoured vehicles of Germany are on now (just search for Panzer IV, for example) and a smattering of others. I'll be getting more and more machine pages done over the next few months.

More to Come...

That's all for now - we're working on bringing you Airfix, Hasegawa, Takom, Academy, Mister Craft and all sorts of other ranges very soon. Until then, keep it Anglia!
