It was deployed as a direct response to the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks on the Eastern Front, which were superior to both the Panzer III and Panzer IV in terms of performance and armaments. Powered by a 700 horsepower V-12 Mayback engine, it was armed with the 75 mm KwK 42 high speed gun which was a very effective anti-tank weapon. The Panther was designed with optimal armor protection, including inclined front armor. Its overall mobility, speed and armaments made the Panther one of the leading tanks of the period, and ensured its deployment on all of the main operational fronts, from the East through Italy and France.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0777/1809/4091/files/italeri-7018-pz_kpfw_-v-panther-ausf_-a-1.jpg?v=1750697684
italeri-7504-1-72-pz-kpfw-v-panther-ausf-g-fast-assembly
Pz.Kpfw. V Panther Ausf. G (late)

As the Luftwaffe was progressively swept from the air as WWII wore on, German tanks became vulnerable to enemy fighters. To help counter this, Germany produced a special set of armored plates that could be mounted atop the turret and over parts of the Panther’s engine deck. These field-mounted steel plates were double-spaced on the turret top to improve protection against aircraft strafing and shrapnel.

Such a Panther Ausf.G with this interesting set of add-on antiaircraft armor is available in 1/72 scale! The armor is reproduced using the latest technology – 3D printing. This medium allows representation of the prominent armor on top of the tank turret. The four plates used to protect vulnerable parts of the engine deck, are also made via 3D printing. The tracks are convenient one-piece lengths, while the slide-molded gun barrel is also made as a single piece. The final result is a unique-looking version of the Panther, which would look perfect in a late-war diorama or as a standalone item.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0777/1809/4091/files/dragon-hk-7696-pz_kpfw_-v-panther-ausf_-g-late.jpg?v=1749144982
dragon-7697-1-72-pz-kpfw-v-panther-ausf-g-with-steel-wheels-and-ir-sights
Pz.Kpfw. These were known in German as Panzerbefehlswagen, and they were used as battalion and regimental command vehicles, as well as for ground-to-air liaison.

As the kit title indicates, this command tank is based on a Panther Ausf.G hull. It has all the additions needed by a Befehls Panther – for example, there is a pair of star antennas on the engine deck, and the correct mantlet for a command Panther is also present. The most notable aspect of this kit is 3D-printed parts to give the necessary scale appearance. The reinforced mantlet, star antenna, antenna rods and bases are all manufactured this way. This combat vehicle was designed by MAN in 1941-1942 as the main tank of the Wehrmacht. The Panther was armed with a smaller gun than the Tiger and was considered by the German classification as a tank with secondary weapons (or simply a medium tank). In the Soviet tank classification, the Panther was considered as a heavy tank, and they referred to it as the T-5 or T-V. The Allied forces classified it as a heavy tank too.
