It is significant in that its outer wing changed again from the F-25. The FAO's wing was lengthened by one foot on each side and returned to using leading edge slats. The longer wing again reduced the stalling speed and allowed slower landing approaches and shorter takeoff distances. The result was an overall improvement over Sabres with the 6-3 wing. The conversion also improved the combat radius and the Sabre's high altitude maneuverability. Because of this, the United States Air Force converted all active duty Sabres to F-40 specifications beginning in March 1955 and added leading edge slats once again. Its maiden test flight was conducted in March 1971 and it was enlisted into the former Soviet Air Force service in 1975. Since then, the llyushin-76 has been the main stay of air transport capability for the former Soviet Union as well as the present Russian Air Force. The llyushin-76 is well-known for its long range non-stop flight, heavy loading and fast speed capabilities. Also, the llyushin-76 can hold 140 fully armed soldiers of 125fully armed air force attack soldiers. With the consideration for quick take-off at cold areas and on incompleted runways, the fuselage was reinforced and the rear doors can open during flight to drop cargoes. Additionally, two mackine guns are also installed at the rear fuselage. As a civilian aircraft from 1975 to 1994, over 800 llyushin-76s were produced and even up to now there are about 50 llyushin-76 transport aircrafts being produced every year. The llyushin-76 transport aircraft are exported to a number of countries including India, Czech, Poland, Iraq, Libya, Afganistan, Cuba and China. To reduce development time, Dr. Walter designed the new boat based on the previous Type XXII prototype. By June, 1943, the initial design was ready and construction began in parallel at several shipyards in Germany, France, Italy and German occupied USSR. The Type XXIII had an all welded hull design, and was the first submarine in the world to use a single hull design. For the power plant, the Type XXIII used the MWM RS-348 diesel engine, which was already in use as a diesel generator aboard the Type IXDs. The electric motor was the AEG GU 4463\/8, which was a simplified version of the electric motors employed on the Type VIIs. Handling wise, the Type XXIII proved to be an excellent boat, which was highly maneuverable both on the surface and underwater. Crash dive time was a quick 9 seconds. Construction of this advanced submarine faced a logistical nightmare. Many disruptions were caused by Allied land advances, constant aerial bombings, material and manpower shortages.
