The main tactical unit was a regiment of about 1,000 men. The basis of the army of the North was made up of volunteer units, the number of which significantly exceeded the units of the professional army. As a rule, the soldiers of one unit were from any one state. More than half of the soldiers were recruited from the urban population. It should also be noted that in military-technical terms, the army of the North was better prepared than the army of the South. At the beginning of the Civil War, infantry tactics were still dominated by outdated views on combat techniques, for example, moving on the battlefield in close close formations. In conditions of high density of fire and the massive use of rifled weapons, this led to high losses and forced the command of both sides of the conflict to look for new ways of combat formations of infantry units.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0777/1809/4091/files/icm-35023-acw-union-infantry-set-2-1.jpg?v=1751310035
icm-35024-1-35-acw-confederate-infantry-set-2
ACW Confederate Infantry Set 2

The industrial superiority of the northern U.S. states over the southern states was particularly evident in matters of military supplies. Set #2

The Civil War of 1861-1865 is rightly considered a turning point in the history of the United States of America. It was the beginning of establishing the United States as a state that has influenced and still influences world politics. This war is also considered to be in some ways unique and unlike any other civil war – it had features of both an internal war and a war between states. It was not just a clash between two differently equipped and trained armies – it was a kind of clash of civilizations. The mutual cruelty of the two warring parties, who had previously been citizens of the same state, reached unimaginable levels. As a result, the Civil War became the bloodiest military conflict for the United States in the country’s history, with 650,000 Americans killed, according to historians. No wonder the famous American historian Shelby Foote described it: “…It was the crossroads of our existence, and it was a hell of a crossroads”.

The kit DS3519 consists of 16 figures.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0777/1809/4091/files/icm-ds3519-fierce-battle-american-civil-war-1.jpg?v=1751311023
