They lived according to their own code of honor, the bushido, the word meaning ‘the way of warrior‘. The main aim of the samurai was faithful service to his master, daime (prince) or a shogun (a military leader in Japan). The most spread weapons were the bow and the spear (yari). The sword was also a very important part of the samurai's armament. The most desperate and fine swordsmen were samurais armed with the nodati, a long two-handled sword. Even experienced warriors could hardly resist their attacks. Some samurais could use the naginata, a sword fastened to a long wooden stick. Masterly warriors combined a powerful hit of the long sword in attack and its defense qualities. But not only samurais took part in marches and battles. Many daimes recruited peasants, work-ing on their land, who wanted to take a military career, and taught them. These troops were called ‘ashigaru‘ (light-feeted) because they were lightly armored and could move quickly on the battle-field. In the middle of the XVI century there appeared fire weapons in the Japanese armies, harquebu- siers. This weapon was used both by samurais and ashigaru. It took only several days to teach a former peasant how to use a harquebus, so Shootings table later mostly ashigaru were armed with it. Each daime created his own army fighting with his flag. Each warrior had a special sign with her daime's coat of arms on his back. Noble samurais guarded their daime or served as junior commanders in his army. They had the strongest armor and were better warriors.

For the first time horses appeared in Japan in late IV - in early V century. Trained horse felt its rider so well that instinctively, simultaneously with its rider's movements it jumped aside, rose on its hind legs, so that to raise its rider for striking, or furiously rushed into the battle. At the same time peasantry was the most indigent class. Every last thing had been taken from serfs. Depended peoples had been laid upon new exactions and duties on various pretexts and names. Corvee, rent-in-kinds, overtaxes, dues for changing of master, posthumous duties, guard money etc. had been increased arbitrarily, despite all longstanding agreements. They had been refused in justice, moreover courts was venal. Further, if a knight could not receive money from peasant by some way then he can throw him into prison without ceremony and force to pay ransom. Of course, people's patience was not endless, that is why armed revolts against oppression were rather often during all history of the Europe. Badly armed, without any armors and regular military training peasant armies nevertheless were able to withstand against skilled professional groups of knights and burgesses. Substantially, it was supported by spiritual character of many protests. Ideological leaders of peasantry (Thomas Muntzer, Wat Tyler, Hans Boheim), while demanding abolition of obligations had been proven it by originally equal rights of people in the face of God. Unfortunately, absence of long traditions of collective unity, incapacity for establishing of administrative work had been caused soon or lately to discords between rebels, and ruling clique was always able to take profit by that. Suppressions of revolts was always cruel and bloody.
