The resulting Unimog S 404 was compact, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase and a payload of 1.5 tonnes. Its 2,195 cc six-cylinder petrol engine produced 82 hp. A robust frame, four-wheel drive, and effective suspension gave the vehicle excellent cross-country capability.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eOver the following decades, the Unimog S 404 was produced in numerous versions, including cargo trucks, Koffer-bodied vehicles, ambulances, mobile radio stations, workshops, and snowploughs. Some vehicles were armed with an MG3 machine gun mounted on a special rotating ring mount known as the Drehringlafette. Its tubular structure was installed above the cab on support brackets attached to both sides of the vehicle.
