HMS Calcutta on July 9, 1918 at Vickers shipyard launched, modified for air defense cruiser in 1939, deployed in the Mediterranean.

June 25, 1940, HMS Calcutta in Bordeaux Coast joined the Canadian destroyer HMCS Fraser and HMCS Restigouche to Rescue 4000 the Germans besieged the French refugees. But because it was a large sea waves, resulting in Calcutta and Fraser collided. Fraser eventually sank, 45 crew members were killed, and Calcutta have 19 people were killed.

HMS Calcutta in June 1, 1941 Battle of Crete in the process of being sunk by German Ju-88 bomber in the north of the Mediterranean waters of Alexandria, Egypt.
