In February 1950, Heinrich Nordhoff, then CEO of Volkswagen ,
unveiled a convenient transporter called the Type 2.
The Type 2, which combined the Beetle's suspension with a boxy body,
became the second best-selling model after the Beetle.
The Type 2, which started in March 1950 as a commercial vehicle called a delivery van,
continued to add various variations and models over time.
The Combi and Samba microbus, popular as convenient cargo vehicles,
were models that were highly valued not only for private use but also for shuttle services and commercial use.
The original Type 2, produced from 1950 to 1966, remains a popular model ,
partly due to its split front windshield and
wide range of body variations .
