In November 1969, the first-generation Fairlady Z was born , replacing the open-body Fairlady with a bold coupe style
featuring a long nose and short deck closed body .
In Japan, two types of engines were offered: the L20 and S20.
In the United States, under the Datsun Sports brand,
the 240Z and 260Z models, equipped with 2.4 and 2.6-liter inline-six engines, were released and
enjoyed immense popularity.
The Z432R
is a model equipped with the legendary S20 engine, which was also used in the Skyline GT-R. The inline 6 DOHC engine,
consisting of DOHC 4 valves/triple Solex carburetors/2 camshafts (432), was paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, producing a maximum output of 160ps/maximum torque of 18.0kgm and a top speed of 210km/h. Later, the Z432R, a racing base vehicle with a lightweight body made of FRP panels, was also produced and was active in the racing scene. Only a little over 400 Z432s and a little over 30 Z432Rs were produced, and these extremely limited demo models are still talked about today as the ‘legendary Z‘.
The Road Race
Fairlady Z made its debut in the Suzuka 300km race in January 1970.
The racing version, the Z432R, performed brilliantly from its first race, competing for the lead, and
achieved its first victory in the Race de Nippon 6 Hours race that same year.
