En mars 1944, la Wa Pruef 6 a attribué des contrats pour la production de trois Pz.Kpfw. IV d'essai auf Einheitsfahrgestell. Une décision a été prise en juin 1944 de commencer la production en série du Pz.Kpfw.III/IV chez Krupp-Grusonwerk en février 1945. Le 12 juillet 1944, Krupp a été informé que le Pz.Kpfw.III/IV était abandonné et que seul le Pznaerjaeger mit L/70 était produit.
