n 1945, Berlin was captured in 17 days. Soviet troops completed the assault on the capital of the Third Reich on May 2, 1945, raising flags over the Reichstag. The Soviet infantry bore the brunt of the battles of the Eastern front of WWII. By the end of the war, special guard companies were created, which took an active part in the battles on German cities. In 1943, the troops began to receive a 7.62 mm submachine gun designed by A.I. Sudayev, which was called PPS-43. For fire support, infantry units were armed with Degtyarev light machine guns, and when storming fortified areas, backpack flamethrowers ROKS-2 were used.
