Soviet tank T-34 was designed in late 1940. By July of 1941 Red army had about a thousand of these tanks. When German troops met these tanks in combat for the first time, they were often shocked, because they didn’t expect Soviets to have such powerful tanks.
Fast, well-armed, sturdy and reliable, T-34 was also easy to produce and relatively cheap. It allowed Soviets to produce an astonishing total of 87000 such tanks.
