This boxed set contains:
- 1 x KTO Rosomak ‘The Green Devil’ 1/72 scale armoured personnel carrier
Polish Ground Forces
The KTO Rosomak is a Polish 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle based on the Finnish Patria AMV, widely used by the Polish Armed Forces. During deployment in Afghanistan, these vehicles were heavily modified to counter threats such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). ISAF variants like the Rosomak-M1 and M1M were fitted with additional steel-composite armor, which increased protection but eliminated their amphibious capability due to added weight.
A key upgrade was the installation of RPGNet anti-RPG cage/net armor mounted on the sides and rear of the vehicle. This system disrupts the functioning of incoming RPG warheads before detonation, significantly improving survivability. The Afghan variants also included electronic countermeasures against IEDs, enhanced communication systems, and additional situational awareness equipment such as cameras and fire detection systems.
In combat conditions in Afghanistan, up-armored Rosomaks equipped with anti-RPG nets proved highly resilient and reliable. There were documented cases of RPG hits that failed to penetrate the vehicle’s armor, demonstrating the effectiveness of these protective upgrades. As a result, the Rosomak earned a strong reputation among Polish forces for crew protection and battlefield durability in asymmetric warfare environments.
