Dornier built a single-engine liaison aircraft with STOL characteristics in Spain after the Second World War. It had its maiden flight as the Dornier Do 25 on 25 June 1954 in Seville. The second prototype had a Continental engine. For a more powerful engine, the landing gear had to be reinforced. Furthermore, the fuel tanks were redesigned and the vertical stabiliser was enlarged. The first Do 27 flew in Germany on 17 October 1956.By 1965, more than 600 aircraft had been built in Germany. 428 were built for the German armed forces. In Spain, 50 Do 27A-1s were built under licence by CASA under the designation C-127. Spain also received a further 26 Do 27s from german armed forces stocks.
