In the early 1990s, the U.S. military developed the lightweight M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) based on the M270 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System). This was done to create a force combining mobility with powerful firepower.

The M142 HIMARS is equipped with a six-pack rocket launcher. Its standard rockets have a range of up to 45 km, and the ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) can reach a range of 300 km. The lightweight design brings its combat weight to only 10.9 tons, and it can reach a top speed of 86 km/h. Additionally, it can be airlifted by a C-130 transport plane and deployed rapidly upon reaching the combat zone, combining mobility with firepower. During the Iraq War in 2005, the M142 HIMARS provided fire support for light mobile units, successfully carrying out rapid and precise strikes on targets. In the 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Ukrainian military used the M142 HIMARS multiple times to carry out long-range precision strikes on key Russian targets. Its high mobility and difficulty to defend against have made it one of the most troublesome weapons for the Russian military.

This MENG 1/72 72-004 U.S. M142 HIMARS High Mobility Artillery Rocket System model is about 109mm long, 41mm wide and 41mm high after assembly. This kit features modular design, fast and easy assembly. It includes fine decals.
