In February 1950, Heinrich Nordhoff, then CEO of Volkswagen ,
unveiled a convenient transporter called the Type 2.
The Type 2, which combined the Beetle's suspension with a boxy body,
became the second best-selling model after the Beetle.
The Type 2, which started in March 1950 as a commercial vehicle called a delivery van,
continued to add various variations and models over time.
Pickup trucks with a cargo bed behind the driver's seat
are characterized by their high, fully flat cargo bed, and
beneath the bed is a locker with approximately 2 square meters of floor space, which
served as a convenient storage space.
The original Type 2, produced from 1950 to 1966, remains a popular model ,
partly due to its split front windshield and
wide range of body variations .
