1*Subaru 360 Young SS (1968) 1/24 scale small saloon car [Historic Car Series]
Since its launch, the Subaru 360 has maintained its basic style without changing it.
With its cute body style, it became affectionately known as the ‘ladybug,‘ and
as a pioneer of the private car era, it remains a memorable national car for many people.
In response to the national car concept presented by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in May 1955,
Fuji Heavy Industries utilized its aircraft technology, inherited from the former Nakajima Aircraft Company,
to create the Subaru 360.
The body features a monocoque structure, a first for a Japanese car,
resulting in a rational and unique style. It boasts
a spacious interior that comfortably accommodates four adults, easy handling, a light and agile ride, and excellent
fuel economy, all while eliminating unnecessary elements and pursuing ultimate functionality.
Since its official announcement in March 1958,
the vehicle has seen an increase in variations due to the diversification of various needs. In
August 1959, a convertible model was released to coincide with the arrival of the leisure era,
followed by a commercial in December of the same year for a combined passenger and cargo vehicle. In
September 1961, the Deluxe model was derived from the standard model, and
the Super Deluxe, with even more equipment, was born.
The Young SS, released in November 1968,
was a coveted model for young people at a time when kei cars were becoming increasingly powerful.
The Subaru 360 has a cumulative production total of 500,000 units,
making it a masterpiece and representative of Japanese kei cars.
