This boxed set contains:

  • 1 x Charioteer Mk VII 1/72 scale medium tank
1:
Jordanian Army
Charioteer Mk VII
Jordanian Army

The Charioteer tank was a post-Second World War British tank destroyer developed by mounting a powerful 20-pounder gun turret onto the chassis of the Cromwell tank. While it saw limited use with the British Army, it found a more significant operational role in the Middle East during the 1950s and 1960s. Countries such as Jordan and Lebanon acquired Charioteers as part of efforts to modernize their armored forces. In these armies, the vehicle provided a substantial increase in anti-tank capability thanks to its high-velocity gun, which was capable of engaging many contemporary armored threats at long range.

In Middle Eastern service, the Charioteer saw combat during regional conflicts, particularly in clashes involving Jordanian forces against Israel during the 1960s. Despite its strong firepower, the vehicle suffered from relatively light armor and a high profile, making it vulnerable on the battlefield. Nonetheless, it served as an important stopgap solution for nations that lacked access to more modern main battle tanks at the time. Over time, as newer tanks became available, the Charioteer was gradually phased out of service, but it remains a notable example of British post-war armored design adapted for export and combat in the Middle East.
