Bedford MWD 15cwt 4x2 GS (Open Cab)
British Army

The Bedford MW was a versatile and reliable British Army truck that played a crucial role during World War II. Developed in 1935 to meet the British War Office’s need for a lightweight, off-road capable truck with a 15 CWT (750 kg) load capacity, it featured a 3.5-liter, 72 HP engine, and was designed for use by infantry battalions. Despite its two-wheel drive, the Bedford MW demonstrated excellent mobility, even in rough terrain, thanks to modifications like increased ground clearance and off-road tires. Production began in 1939, and the truck quickly became a staple not only in infantry units but also in the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, and other auxiliary services. The Bedford MW came in various configurations, including transport trucks, radio vehicles, water tankers, anti-aircraft gun tractors, and even armed versions with Bofors or Hotchkiss cannons. Its durability, ease of use, and small size made it ideal for operations in North Africa, the Mediterranean, Normandy, and Western Europe, where it was vital to Allied logistics. Over 66,000 units were built, and many remained in service into the 1950s, with some still used by various armies post-war.
